blog - Is short for weB LOG – A blog is a journal or diary that is published on the web. The process of updating a blog is known as a “blogging” and someone who has a blog is a “blogger.”

click-through rate (CTR) - The average number of click-throughs per hundred ad impressions, expressed as a percentage.

cost-per-action (CPA) - online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely on qualifying actions such as sales or registrations.

cost-per-click (CPC) - the cost or cost-equivalent paid per click-through.

CPM - cost per thousand impressions.

hit - request of a file from a Web server.

mashup - is a website or application that combines content from more than one source into an integrated experience.

pay per click (PPC) - online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely on qualifying click-throughs.

pay per lead (PPL) - online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely based on qualifying leads.

pay per sale (PPS) - online advertising payment model in which payment is based solely based on qualifying sales.

reciprocal link - An agreed link exchange between two sites.

search engine marketing (SEM) - The marketing of a web site via search engines; this could involve improving the sites’ ranking on organic results or paid listings or a combination of both.

search engine optimization (SEO) - This is the art of modifying a web site so that it does well in the organic/free listings of search engines.

SEM - This acronym stands for search engine marketing and may also be used to refer to a company or person that does search engine marketing, such as “he is an SEM”.

SEO - This acronym stands for search engine optimization and often also used to refer to companies or people that do search engine optimization “he is an SEO”.

social media optimization (SMO) -  the concept is all about optimizing a site in order to incorporate community sites aka user generated content. you can do this by adding RSS fees, Flickr, YouTube and forums to name a few.
